BNSF 3777 third on southbound covered hopper work - and speak of the devil, partially blocked by the round-table upper catwalk. I know everything changes, but it still looks odd to see ET44C4 instead of "ES" - dang, Im getting old(er). (gotta love it when the better-half chooses *now* to help look over and edit my text. Thanks, sweetie.) |

Description: |
BNSF 8233 middle of three headed south with covered hopper group... and youd think if you were going to put a power/light pole in the middle of the frame, the least you could do was make it 90° vertical (as if there arent enough non-horizontal lines and angles all through this section of track with the new guardrails and such, the round table poles are tilted... fine, sure, I know, we have an active table by an over-pass accessible to people and Im complaining - speaking of which, later in the month I finally caught it in action. For those having not been first-person present, uh, dont splurge on the sound equipped tables, its a bit of a letdown. I wont spoil that entry just yet, but look for the details! Coming soon to a RRPA - place your pre-order...) |

UP 8668 - UP 5670 - BNSF 9252 with southbound autorack paused in the passing lane in Vancouver... and after seeing BNSF rigs out in the desolate stretches of northeastern Oregon earlier in the day, something odd is going on. You have to look no further than the trees in the background - theres leaves on them... and theyre not green (sounds like a joke, but we *used* to go from trees with green leaves to trees stripped bare (high winds with coming of fall) or the early freeze that just kills things - green to dead & brown... THEN the wind stripped them off. "Beware the four horsemen..." hey, wait a second... there were four lone BNSF units out in UP territory... guess its a good thing were on our way to services. |

KCS 4869 tailend of possibly a double pusher or awaiting northbound power duo buried in the yards... and what is it with darkness and cool and interesting things buried just out of sensor range? While trying to nab this shot, I believe a UP heritage unit shot through here along with something blue with large 2012 (?) livery emblazoned shooting north into the dark. Figures - but at least I almost got this little KCS unit on sensor, even if we did have to wander around through new and uncharted residential areas overlooking the north yard. |

PNWR 2302 |
Description: |
PNWR 2302 fourth for the trip south (likely first for the hop up here) and a little bashful behind the tree and a small puddle... because were behind on rainfall right now for December (! And November... yeah, go figure... yet were going to finish 2016 *over* normal rainfall, even after five months of drought this summer... gives you a little appreciation for what normal rain fall levels can be around these parts) - oh, the train, not the weather... its a southbound mixed freight. |

PNWR 2306 as three-of-five and the homely one of the bunch, but wearing her rust with pride... or maybe just plain resolution... preparing to go butt-first with mixed freight back south. |

BNSF 3929 |
Description: |
BNSF 3929 on point with a northbound covered hopper double-header right before a friendly little toot - which was appreciated, although it was too cold out here in the freezing fog to wave by that point as I was scurrying back to the car where the heater remained on high to help defrost stubby little frozen fingers. |

BNSF 7906 |
Description: |
BNSF 7906 at the rear pushing a double-stack south... and caught on my way back home, fingers still frozen solid after being outside at the station for the past hour or more "playing with trains." Dang, seems like there should be a better, more sane and temperature controlled way to play with trains... if only someone would invent it... maybe scale it down, or something. |

BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60 and pusher BNSF 6370 |
Description: |
BNSF 1560 - BNSF 60 shuffling a mixed freight between middle yard, ducking under the 39th Street Over-Pass with pusher BNSF 6370 northbound covered hopper in the passing lane to get you better oriented to what I was trying to describe above (the under-the-over-pass position just barely visible behind BNSF 60 in the background). Speaking of backgrounds, yes, in the center distance is a grain ship being pushed into position or set to anchor out on the Columbia River - everything on the other side of the ship is Oregon. Additional "Oh" - the new turn-table continues to sit-and-soak up more rain... sort of sad to just see it with a single spur off the end & used only for turning power units instead of the grand old days of spokes and storage and round-house... although a shed would block the view from up here, so maybe not. |
