Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad Depot |
Description: |
This Italianate style depot was built in 1871 by the Milwaukee and St. Paul Railroad (Milwaukee Road). It served for both passenger and freight business until the new passenger station was built a couple hundred feet to the south of it in 1907. The Caldwell Lumber Company, formed in 1919 took over us of the structure some time shortly after the new depot was built. Besides being used by Calwell Lumber (still in operation) the building has also been used as a warehouse for Vita-Plus. |

MILW 35A |
Description: |
A passenger consist on display in front of the old Milwaukee Road Station in Madison. The three cars seem to be of New York Central heritage, though I have not tried to research them. Knowing how some display units are often not in original paint, sometimes refurbished in a whimsical manner, one can only appreciate that they are there. Until I can find out for sure, I will just go by the fact that they do indeed have New York Central lettering on them. |

Description: |
A last look at the Milwaukee Roads 1910 built bridge across Eight Mile Creek. The bridge will be replaced within the next month. The pavement in the foreground is County Highway FF. This is a very interesting converging of the road, railroad and creek. |

Former Milwaukee Road Bridge |
Description: |
A look at the long abandoned Milwaukee Road bridge across the Fox River in the "flats" of Appleton. This bridge brought the Milwaukee from behind Fox River Paper ( Neenah Paper now)across the water to the north shore and Foremost Dairy. Lawe Street is the concrete span behind the rail bridge. Most of the buildings in the view are part of the Lawrence University campus. |

This long abandoned Milwaukee Road bridge once gave the Milwaukee access to the north side of the Fox River. In Appleton, there are no manufacturing businesses left along the river geographically beyond Neenah Paper. |
