ATW 109 (Original Version)
Title:  ATW 109 (Original Version)
Description:  A cropped version of this photo appears here http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=242713&nseq=0 I thought there was a bit too much sky and the focus seemed to be more on the junkyard than the train so I tightened the margain some to make sure that the focus was on the train. I'm posting this one here because this is my best photo ever and I want it as my cover page photo and also because focusing on the junk yard still makes for an interesting shot as well - kind of like this is the Atlantic Western Railroad and this is what it does. This is actually the benefit to being an incompetent photographer - I snapped this picture too soon and ended up with a better, more interesting shot. I'll also leave it up to the viewer whether they prefer the cropped or uncropped version. And yes, the colors/image are completely untouched, it really was this pretty that day. It was also very shocking to see this train here - it was President's Day, a federal holliday, so it was a bit of a surprise that the ATW was working

RSSX 1219 Doing Gravel Running (?)
Title:  RSSX 1219 Doing Gravel Running (?)
Description:  I saw some cars driving on this, so its kind of like street running although it looks more like a gravel parking lot or maybe alley. Rejected by railpictures.net due to being backlit - I wonder what gave it away that this was backlit? I was thinking that given how unique of a scene this was they might have gone for it even though backlit. Even backlit, you have to take a shot like this when the opportunity arises. And hey, it gets a favorite too because I have never seen anything like the tracks this guy is running on before.

AMTK 98
Title:  AMTK 98
Description:  This got rejected by those snobs at railpictures.net for bad composition, but I like how this shows how a passenger train (if I remember correctly the Palmetto) leaving a station works to get up to speed

AMTK 98 Gives off a ton of smoke
Title:  AMTK 98 Gives off a ton of smoke
Description:  Those snobs at railpictures.net rejected this for being "bad angle" being a going away shot, even though just a few photos before, they took another photographer's photograph which was a going away shot. I suspect the real problem was that it was an Amtrak shot in a not very interesting area (the rear 3/4 view isn't the best of the P42DC and downtown Rocky Mount isn't exactly scenic). Had it been more interesting power with that type of smoke display or a scenic location, maybe. I still like it due to all of the smoke from it accelerating away from the Rocky Mount station - I think this was The Palmetto - and that fact is what really counts.
