Album Info:This small industrial locomotive is located in Cactus, Texas, about 60 miles north of Amarillo on US 287. It was built by General Electric in July of 1941 in their Schenectady, N.Y. plant and became Columbia Geneva Steel #7, later USSX-Columbia Steel Division #7. It eventually found its way to Texas under the ownership of Goodpasture Grain and worked at their Brownfield and Dimmitt grain facilities. It almost met its demise in April, 2007 when the small community of Cactus was hit by an F2 tornado. Winds were 130-135 MPH and the tornado was estimated to be mile wide. Some of the storm damage is visible in the background of one of the photos. The locomotive survived the storm intact but the front and left side show signs of impact from hail or debris. Sometime in its more recent history, the number 93 was stenciled on the engine. I would assume that the numbering was done by Goodpasture but there is no sign of any lettering marks. Goodpasture formally used GGMX as their identifier
