NP 4-6-0 #1376 - Northern Pacific
Title:  NP 4-6-0 #1376 - Northern Pacific
Description:  It appears that this Burnham, Williams & Co (Baldwin predecessor) 4-6-0 #1376 may be sitting in the storage/scrap line in Livingston, MT, yard. The loco still looks fresh, thanks to the careful attention of the Northern Pacific shops even after 50 years of service. Original Compound Specs - serial #20621, S4 class, 63" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 15.5x30" high pressure cylinders, 26x30" low pressure cylinders, engine weight of 190,450 lb, tractive effort of 28,698 lb. In 1928, the Northern Pacific rebuilt the loco as a simple expansion version and superheated them. This rebuild increased the tractive effort to 35,700 lb. No photographer was listed.

Title:  SLSF 4-6-0 #1401 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Description:  Good looking 4-6-0 ten wheeler built by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin predecessor) in December of 1907. Since the work numbers were not assigned in order, the serial number is unknown for this loco. The 1400s were never converted to oil burning, although their boilers were superheated by the Frisco Shops in the 1920's. The class was "dismissed from service" between March 1950 and November 1951. SLSF 4-6-0 #1404 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Title:  SLSF 4-6-0 #1404 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Description:  A fading original photo of the 1907 Burnham, Wms & Co built ten wheeler. According to www.steamlocomotives.com, "Very few engines were delivered with this particular combination of bore and stroke. Few Ten-wheelers had cylinders this big in any case, yet their 13" piston valves actuated by the still-rare Walschaert's gear seem well-sized to keep up with demand. The 1400s were never converted to oil burning, although their boilers were superheated" Unknown photographer

SLSF 4-6-0 #1406 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Title:  SLSF 4-6-0 #1406 - St Louis-San Francisco (Frisco)
Description:  This is an unusual photo with several discrepancies. It appears to be in a storage/scrap line but the loco was still working in 1939. Second, the "Vanderbilt" tender was rarer on SLSF locos and suggests possibly that it was an oil burner but several sources state that this class was not an oil burner. Nevertheless, the loco was built by Burnham, Wms &Co in December of 1907 and after 40+ years was "dismissed from service" between March 1950 and November 1951. No photographer was listed for the photo.
