4012 |
Description: |
I was church organist at a church in Jamaica for several years in the mid 80s. I got done around noon, and if I hustled, I had enough time to get to Bellerose for the mid day parade. One of my favorite targets was train 4012, which in the summer had a swelled consist due to it being used as a deadhead move for freshlly serviced parlor cars. Youll see a lot of it. I probably saw every GP 38 LIRR had on it over several years. |

New station |
Description: |
As the Ronkonkoma electrification project nearedcompletion, some of the stations were finished and ready to enter service. As this happened, trains began stopping at the new platforms and the old ones were removed from service. One such place was Bethpage, where the new station is in use, though the official opening is still three months off. This group of home bound commuters undoubtedly appreciated the improvement. |

Not exactly. My guess is the MP 15 power pack was not the unit the engineer wanted in the lead, so he swapped the GP 38 from the west end. Its also possible its just a power swap. Either way, its an unconventional arrangement. Rolling through Mineola late at night. |

Not much had changed on the Island in the five years since I last lived there, though that would change dramatically in the next few years, with new cars and power. 4012 from a different perch |
Description: |
I typically would go to Bellerose on Sunday, since it had the best viewing platform for trains on the Main Line. Occasionally Id go elsewhere, such as todays stop at Queens Village. We see 4012 behind the usual pair of GP 38s passing the Queens Village team yard west of the station. It will blow through the station, then bounce through Queens interlocking on its way to Hicksville and Montauk via the Central Branch. |
