They are about to enter one of the westbound tunnels at Gallitzin with a 125-car merchandise freight train. They are pulling a westbound TrucTrain that will not stop in Altoona for crew changes. All are EF-22's built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. They are about to pass under the 4th Street Bridge with an 80-car TrucTrain bound for Enola and points East. The caboose is #477866. Also visible are two westbound freight trains awaiting orders to proceed, as well as two passenger cars awaiting reconditioning in the PRR's Passenger Car Shops behind them. Visible in the center distance, beyond the 7th Street Bridge, are some of the PRR's 12th Street Shop buildings.

FSF. Here is the first of two duplicate 35mm color slides via Al Chione that were taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in August of 1964. The photographer is not identified. At center-left are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9724 and a "BF" Class B-unit whose road number is not recorded. #9724 is a BF-16 constructed by Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton in March of 1951, rated at 1,600 horsepower, and retired in July of 1966. At center-right are PRR engine #2213 and three more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #2213 is an EF-22 built in March of 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. Both trains have changed engine and train crews, and await movement orders to proceed up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #2221, #2431, and #2262. #2221 is an EF-22 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2431 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2262 is an EF-25 built by EMD in 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are pulling an eastbound merchandise freight train through the Altoona Passenger Station and under the 12th Street Bridge on their way to Enola and points East. This train seems to have two "sections": the first has 37 cars and N-8 caboose #478086, the second has 35 cars and caboose #477746.
