| Burlington Northern Railroad class ARS-3 4056 at Cicero, Illinois on an unknown day in September 1980, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Built in January 1952 as Spokane Portland & Seattle RS3 71 (c/n 79594), it became BN ARS-3 4056 and was retired in April 1980. A question came up about the box-like enclosure on the roof over the radiator fan. I have no explanation and would appreciate a comment from someone who has more knowledge about this. |
