| The Evansville "branch" actually continues to Madison, although the part north and west of Evansville hasn't seen a train since 1997 and has several grade crossings removed or paved over. In C&NW days it was part of a mainline extending from Chicago through Harvard, IL and then through Janesville, Evansville, Madison and Reedsburg en route to the Twin Cities. Now UP and Wisconsin & Southern operate portions of the line in disjointed segments with greatly varying levels of train traffic and track condition. |
