| Here, the train is at Whitlow Jct., heading onto the F&P (former Rock Island) from the AD&N mainline. The photographer is facing toward Fordyce and you see the F&P mainline to Fordyce. This track was barely passable when Georgia Pacific bought it from the bankrupt Rock Island in 1981. It was then rebuilt with 85, 90, 100 and 112 pound ribbon rail with good ballast sections to FRA Class 3 Standards for 40 mph freight service. However, the railroad was operated at 20 mph under yard limit rules. |
