L&D 1850 in ex-MP Yard
Yard view with LDRR 1850. The former MP (New Iberia & Northern) yard today is an integral part of the L & Ds operations. It is primarily used in handling carbon black covered hoppers. Inbound empties are brought in from the main line interchange tracks where they have been delivered by UP and brought in from Lafayette(BNSF) . They are stored and switched in the MP yard to build up the train that the switcher then brings to Baldwin. The switcher returns to New Iberia with loads that are switched out on the interchange tracks and are offered up for interchange to the UP, and brought to Lafayette for interchange to the BNSF. Adjacent to the MP yard is the former Iberia Sugar Coop sugar mill. Although the mill has been closed for several years, the last couple of years the loading dock has been used to load out molasses.
