Here is an action shot of this powerful 4-8-4 built by Alco-Schenectady as CRIP #5040 in April of 1930. Look at the long string of cars behiind it! The loco was a versatile member on the CRIP roster by serving both freight and passenger service, especially after receiving 74" drivers during a 1930's rebuild. The loco lasted in service until being retired and sold for scrap in August of 1952. Specs - 69" drivers, impressive 250 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 434,000 lb and tractive effort of 66,620 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo. |
