Here is page one of a seven-page article by Tom Hanna entitled "Altoona Works." It was published originally in the January 1946 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 20. Photo Caption: "One of the Class T-1 fast passenger locomotives on the locomotive test plant ready to start a test. A locomotive can run 100 miles an hour or more while standing still where test readings can be more accurately obtained." Pictured here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6110, a T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during April of 1942 and retired in December of 1953 after just 11 years of revenue service. This is the original T-1. |
