CB&Q 4-6-0 Class K-2 630
Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 4-6-0 Class K-2 630, date, location and photographer unknown, print by Tom Klinger, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 630 was built by the Rogers Locomotive And Machine Works in September 1892 as B&MR 302 (c/n 4766), renumbered into the CB&Q system as 630 and classed as K-2. It was retired in November 1946. The date (December 1, 1944) and location (Lincoln, Nebraska) were chosen based on information in the December 1, 1944 CB&Q Locomotive Assignment Sheet, which shows this locomotive assigned to the Lincoln Division. Based on the wide space between the domes, position of the bell, and what appears to be a platform in the space between the domes, I would speculate that this locomotive was once used in commuter service. The space and platform were for the Curtis steam turbine generator to power the train lighting, likely removed and applied to the more powerful Pacific type locomotives later used in commuter service.
