SAL 2-10-0 #501 - Seaboard Air Line  Contributor's Pick!       
In 1918, 857 2-10-0 decapods were built by Baldwin and Alco for the Russian Government but when the empire was overthrown, the locomotives were sold to American lines with 34 of these going to Seaboard Air Line. According to one source, the decapods, called "Russians" by SAL, were "ideal for logging and phosphate service on light-rail branches in Florida." Specs - 52" drivers, 180 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine weight of 207,700 lb, tractive effort of 51,490 lb. Charles E. Winters photo
