Departing Union Pacific’s West Colton Yard for Portland, Oregon, is train MWCPT-17. This train is almost all on the railroad’s Mojave Sub (the former Southern Pacific Palmdale Cutoff, built over Cajon Pass in 1967) at this point, with only the last few cars and the rear DPU, ES44AC 8088, yet to cross over from the Alhambra Sub. Slover Mountain, alongside the mainline, has been reduced to, basically, a low rise, allowing a view of Redlands that had been blocked for as long as humans have lived in the area, (Colton, California – December 18, 2020) |
