This view was looking north along the former Norfolk Southern ST. LOUIS STREET LINE from Jefferson Davis Parkway, shortly after this portion of the branch had been abandoned. Between 1908 and 1954 this line carried passenger trains of several railroads into and out of the Southern Railway’s TERMINAL STATION on Basin Street at Canal Street. After passenger trains moved to New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal in 1954, this line continued to serve a varied-but-declining assortment of freight customers into the late 20th century. This right-of-way is now occupied by the LAFITTE GREENWAY linear park. |
