Here is an original photo by Douglas C. Jones that was taken from the 7th Street Footbridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1953. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #4143, an H-9S (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during October of 1913 and retired in March of 1953 after 40 years of faithful service. In this context, it's servicing the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops. Partially visible in the background is the Passenger Station's venerable trainshed. |
