CB&Q VO-1000 9378 at North Kansas City at Missouri on June 21, 1964, Kodachrome by Lou Schmitz, Chuck Zeiler collection. This is a closeup of a photo posted earlier. As I was cleaning the scan, I noticed that the right half of the letter W in West was cleanly displayed over the louvers. It would appear the the CB&Q welded a piece of sheet metal over the louvers and painted it to match the otherwise stenciled slogan on the side of the locomotive. This is, of course, only of interest to CB&Q fans. Also note that these particular louvers appear to be cut inward to the carbody, whereas all the other louvers are punched outward. This may explain the need for a piece of sheet metal to continue the letter W over the louvers, which on all the other CB&Q locomotives, was simply painted over the louvers.
