IC SD40A 6007 |
Description: |
IC SD40A 6007, Paducah, Kentucky, June 25, 1986, photo by Chuck Zeiler. Built in August 1969 (c/n 34940) on EMD Order 5743, it became ICG 6007, and was rebuilt into a SD40-2R and became IC 6007 (again). The SD40A was unique to the IC/ICG, only 18 (#'s 6006-6023) were built at the request of the IC. The idea was to carry a 5000 gallon fuel tank and, to accommodate that, EMD used the longer SDP40/45 frame. The SD40A introduced the water level sight glass, a characteristic of the Dash 2 line of EMD products. |
